On 15.04.1865, Gazulu Lakshmi Narslu Chetty, was nominated as the second native Member of the Madras Legislative Council and was made a Non Official nominated Income Tax Commissioner in Madras, apart from being appointed as the Director of the Cotton Cleaning Company. He was awarded the Order of Star of Companion of India at the hands of Her Majesty Queen Victoria of Great Britain for his exemplary service and contribution towards his native people and was conferred with the Title, Honourable, with 15 Gun Salute equivalent to the Rank, File and Status of The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court in 1865.

As per the records of the Homeward Mail newspaper, Honourable Gazulu Lakshmi Narslu Chetty died on 06.09.1868 at Madras and a public memorial was held at Patchiappa Charities, in which he was a Director, till his death since its inception in 1842. This was presided over by the Advocate General of the Madras High Court and the Founder of the Madras Bar Association John Bruce Norton. It was reported by the Madras Times, owned by Gantz and sons, that a huge political vacuum had been created due to the unfortunate demise of the First Native Statesman of Madras.

An oil painting & portrait was commissioned to be dedicated in Patchiappa Charities by John Fonseca through public subscription and this was unveiled by John Bruce Norton later in 1869, which even stands today and is the only recorded available portrait.

The later revival of the MNA was a historical development in the Annals of political upheavals in Madras Presidency. The famous Triplicane Six with Eardley Norton, including Tanjore Dikshitar Ganapathy Subramanian Iyer, Venbacum Bashyam Iyengar, Kasturi Rangan Iyengar, TT Rangachari, Andhra Bishma Nyayapathi Subbarao Panthulu, Mudumbai Veeraraghavachariar were responsible for the revival of the MNA with Bashyam Iyengar becoming its President, Tanjore Dikshitar Ganapathy Subramanian Iyer, as its Secretary with key roles helmed by Panthulu in Rajamundry. Various political resolutions & memorandums were submitted and they followed what was called as the Madras Native Model. The Madras Native Model was adopted from the British Conservative Party model and the American Republican Party Model of having a robust political party base with a strong, stable and sturdy mouthpiece in the form of a printing press and newspaper which will be the propaganda arm and voice of the party to reach the masses at the grassroots level.
